SP Poly 50-part 1

I graduated from SP for around 4 years and SP have this annual event called POLY 50. You will need to form a team of 10 runners-7 males and 3 females. You have to complete 50 rounds and it is a relay competition. There will be 3 stations and you have to switch runner from station to station. In addition you have to sprint one station to another station, to make this difficult every year they will start around 3pm and the weather is still quite hot and humid. When I am still a student of SP I joined all the Poly 50 competitions under Team CLS (Chemical and Life Science). First year and last year of my poly days my team managed to get into top 10 for student category. After graduated from SP and went into army I still carried on running for Poly 50 under the alumni category. Honestly speaking, the Alumni category have stronger competitors and my team (CLS alumni) team have always emerged top 3 for alumni category for the past 3 years (2013-2015).

Every year i get up the stage to receive my medal, the VIP will say wow such a big size guy and still able to run and my answer will always say YA. Poly 50 is purely endurance based training and you need to train yourself progressively. You have to sprint even when you know that your lactic on your calf and your leg have started building up.Below are some of the pictures of my poly 50 moments:

When I started joining Poly 50 most of the people who knew doubted me. They say you so fat can run meh!! Poly 50 very Shiong one leh must be fit fit leh. Every comment that they say the more I wanted to Challenge myself. Size does not matter whether you are able to endure this race but is your heart and mental to tell you push on. During the start of every poly 50 training period, I will get damn dizzy or weak. However it is my mental to push me on and i keep improving myself every single training. If I miss training, I will train on myself and condition myself.

People give up because they say the race is too long or is very tiring. However they never want to try and say all this demoralizing words. Honestly training is tough but tough get going. If we don't feel the pain in training we will never get used to the pain during the competition. I cannot always depend on my team mate, that is why i keep pushing myself every single training and make sure I don't lack behind. I am not any professional runner or any TeamSG runner I based on my own ability to push myself harder in the training I have set by myself. Big size like me really need a lot of afford to get use of my body weight when I start sprinting and running. At first it is quite tiring but after a few trainings you will start to get use to your body weight.

Remember you must get used of the pain in order to push yourself further and higher.
